"The baseball world will perhaps never again see his equal. He never wore a glove and his hands were as small as a woman's, but he could handle any sort of throw or hit, running at the ball from either right or left and never halting at a bad throw or difficult ground hit. (Fred) Dunlap was ambidextrous. In covering second, he would run and catch a badly thrown ball as well with his left hand as with his right hand. Great as a fielder, he was even greater as a thrower. His aim was as accurate as the best rifle shot." - New York Post (December 3, 1902)
"The distinguished baseball historian Albert Spink in 1910 flatly stated that Dunlap was the best second baseman he ever saw." (Baseball in Washington, DC. Ceresi and Rucker, page 17, Arcardia Publishing.)
Fred was also the first major league player recorded to hit for the Cycle, on 5-24-1886 : single, double, triple and home run in the same game. see MLB (submitted by Michael Sean Dunlap)

(1952-7/2/2000) The late
Joey Dunlop is a hero of
Northern Ireland. A five-times Formula One motorcycle racing champion, Joey was
killed during a road race in Estonia in July 2000. He was 48, and is survived by
his wife Linda and five children Julie, Donna, Gary, Richard, and Joanne. His

motorcycle racing.
He was
also well known for his charitable works in Romania and the Balkans. As
testimony to the high regard in which he was held, the Queen awarded
Joey an MBE (Member of the British Empire) for his motorcycle racing
achievements, and OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his charity work. He was
awarded the freedom of his hometown of Ballymoney, Northern Ireland. In June
last year he was awarded the Sword of State by the Isle of Man Parliament.

Robert Dunlop
Although he rode in the shadow of his famous brother, Robert
is a Champion in his own right. The Northern
Ireland rider Robert Dunlop has announced that he will quit motorcycling after
the 2004 season.
The 43 year old won the 125 cc event at the 2003 Ulster Grand Prix. Dunlop's
focus in 2004 will be his attempts to add to his record haul of North West 200
wins and five Isle of Man TT victories. "This
incoming season will be my last but I'd love another North West 200 and TT win
before I quit," he said. "With both my sons William
and Michael in the game now, I think I will lean my experience towards them."
He suffered a major accident on the Isle of Man in the mid 1990s and was forced to restrict his competition entry to the 125 cc class. TT Results

On
September 16, 2001, American
Alison
Dunlap won the 2001 UCI
Mountain Bike World Champion in Vail, CO.
At the age of 32, she is the only American to have won a cross-country event
since 1991. She crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 51 minutes and 28 seconds in
Vail, CO. As she stood beneath the U.S. flag, tears streamed down her face.
"It's just an incredible dream, and after all that happened this week with the
World Trade Center, it's great to do it for America," Dunlap said, "I'm just so
excited!"
From a kid with a training wheel-equipped, royal blue, banana seat bicycle, to the 2001 World Mountain Bike Championship, Alison Dunlap has never ignored her dad’s advice when he told her "don’t stop pedaling!" It was advice that has taken her beyond an early initial interest in soccer and gymnastics to become one of the elite among cycling World Cup events, the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia, and winner of the 2001 UCI Mountain Bike World Championship in Vail, Colorado, September 16, 2001. See her website at http://alisondunlap.com for lots of great stuff regarding this incredible cousin of ours.

Rory Delap Midfielder Southampton English Premier Football
Republic of Ireland international Rory Delap has shown a natural goal scoring touch despite originally being bought by Derby County as a wing-back. His all-action style and knack of arriving in the penalty area at the right time are not the only strings to his bow, with plenty of strong challenges also part of the package. First caught the eye as a Carlisle United player and joined the Rams for a £200,000 fee in February 1998. Grew in stature throughout the 2000/01 season and new Southampton manager Stuart Gray swooped to smash the club's transfer record and land Delap in a £4million deal in the summer of 2001. It doubled the club's transfer record.
Made 97 Premiership starts for the Rams, scoring 11 goals.
